DVSA-Approved Roller Brake Tester for HVG and PSV up to 20 Tonnes

The HOFMANN® connected roller brake tester for vehicle classes IV, V, and VII HGV and PSV. Classes IV, V and VII integrate the Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) with the DVSA MOT Testing System (MTS) via the PC workstation.

This cutting-edge equipment is fully compliant with the latest DVSA specifications and is backed by comprehensive support from Snap-on®, including hardware and software. Our team of GEA-accredited engineers will handle installation, calibration, and ongoing maintenance.

Important Update to ATF Brake Tester Specifications

The DVSA has rolled out new specifications for HGV/PSV brake testers at Authorised Testing Facilities (ATF). As per the mandate, all brake testers in use at ATF locations must be updated by 31st December 2025.

These changes aim to modernise the testing process, enhancing the interpretation of standardised results and printouts while improving usability and workflows to align with modern vehicle requirements.

Ensuring Compliance with the DVSA's Latest Roller Brake Testing Software Requirements for ATF’s

Why are these updates important?

The latest updates are significant enhancements to testing and road safety, which include:

Service Brake Efficiency Updates: The inclusion of drawbar trailers in service brake efficiency evaluations marks a significant stride towards comprehensive road safety. By expanding the scope of assessment, these updates address previously overlooked areas, ensuring that all aspects of vehicle braking systems meet stringent standards.

Refined Secondary Brake Performance Metrics: Secondary brake performance is a critical aspect of vehicle safety, especially in emergency braking situations. With updated metrics, regulators aim to provide a more accurate assessment of a vehicle's braking capabilities, thus enhancing overall safety on the roads.

Programmatic Adjustments to Prevent Tyre Damage: Tyre maintenance is essential for road safety and vehicle longevity. By implementing fundamental programme changes aimed at preventing tyre damage, the DVSA is taking proactive measures to mitigate risks associated with tyre-related incidents, such as blowouts or loss of control.

Streamlined Workflows for Consistent Brake Testing: Consistency in brake testing procedures is essential for ensuring accurate results and identifying potential safety issues promptly. The introduction of improved workflows enhances the efficiency and reliability of brake testing during both routine inspections and preventative maintenance checks.

Introduction of Advisory Elements for Preventative Maintenance: Incorporating advisory items into the testing process enables ATFs to address potential maintenance issues proactively. By offering guidance on broader preventative maintenance practices, these advisories empower vehicle owners and operators to uphold higher standards of safety and reliability.

Extending the Software Update Deadline: Recognising the financial implications of these upgrades, the DVSA has extended the software update deadline to 31st December 2025. This extension provides ATFs with the necessary time and flexibility to incorporate the costs into their business plans effectively, ensuring a smoother transition to compliance.
